William R. “Bill” Scherer is a Founding Partner of Conrad & Scherer LLP and has led the firm to its status as one of the most respected and well-known law firms in the state of Florida. He is a recognized leader among South Florida's legal, political, civic, charitable and social communities.
Mr. Scherer was the lead lawyer in the recovery efforts undertaken on behalf of victims of the infamous Rothstein billion dollar Ponzi scheme in Broward County, Florida, State Court. The highly publicized suit filed by Mr. Scherer was the largest of its kind and was brought against numerous defendants including TD Bank, N.A, and Gibraltar Private Bank & Trust. In early 2012, Mr. Scherer and his team of attorneys/para-professionals obtained one of the highest percentages of recovery for victims of a Ponzi scheme in what is said to be the largest settlement in Broward County history. He and his firm continue to lead the effort in pursuing claims against those alleged to have been involved Florida’s largest financial fraud orchestrated by Rothstein. Mr. Scherer also served as chairman of the Creditors’ Committee of the Rothstein law firm’s bankruptcy proceeding.
In 2005, Mr. Scherer served as co-counsel for the plaintiff in a high-profile commercial lawsuit in Broward County involving the sale of a health insurance company. The case was tried to a jury, which returned a verdict in favor of the firm’s client and entered one of the largest damage awards in Broward County history.
He led a team of attorneys representing President George W. Bush during the historical 2000 vote recount in Florida and personally represented the future President in the Broward County recount.

For more than 25 years, Mr. Scherer has been managing partner of Conrad Scherer LLP and supervised teams of legal experts in healthcare and malpractice law that served as General Counsel to the North Broward Hospital District, one of the largest public health care providers in the nation, with four hospitals and nine specialized treatment centers. As managing partner, he was responsible for all trials and legal actions taken by the firm on behalf of its many clients, including major healthcare companies, insurance providers, governments and private corporations.
He is an experienced and successful litigator who has handled hundreds of high profile and complex cases. Mr. Scherer is a graduate of Franklin College of Indiana, where he served for many years on the Board of Trustees, and a magna cum laude graduate of the School of Law at Indiana University. Mr. Scherer served as a clerk for the Supreme Court of Indiana and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
