Announcing Our Pathways to Careers in Law Summer Interns

As we embrace the summer season at Conrad & Scherer, we are excited to welcome our new interns, Yasmin Harebin and Jordyn Minnis, who bring enthusiasm and a passion for law to our team. These talented individuals are part of our Pathways to Careers in Law program, designed to provide students with opportunities to explore legal careers.

Pathways to Careers in Law Program

The Pathways to Careers in Law program, in partnership with Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law and Fort Lauderdale High School’s Law Magnet program, offers a unique blend of mentorship, hands-on experience, and academic support. It aims to inspire and guide students toward successful careers in the legal field.

Since its inception, the program has seen 38 students complete their internships, with many pursuing law degrees at prestigious institutions. This initiative helps nurture the next generation of legal professionals.

Meet Our Interns

Yasmin Harebin

Hi! My name is Yasmin Harebin. I’m 17 years old and a senior at Fort Lauderdale High School (FLHS). I’m actively involved in several extracurricular activities, including serving as the Captain of the Mock Trial Team, being a member of the National Honor Society, acting as a Student Ambassador for the school, and founding the Mock Trial Middle School Mentoring Program.

One of my proudest achievements is being part of the Mock Trial team, where I’ve become immersed in a fantastic community and gained substantial knowledge about law. Our team has achieved impressive results, placing 3rd internationally, 2nd in the state, and 1st in the district! We’re gearing up for the Empire Chicago competition and hope to secure the first-place trophy in the international arena—wish us luck!

In school, I particularly enjoy math and law classes, and so this year I’m excited to take AP Calculus BC and Statistics, as well as a court procedures class. After graduating from FLHS, I aim to attend either UF or Georgetown University to pursue a law degree.

Outside of school and mock trial, I enjoy playing tennis, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and reading a good book. This summer, I was honored to be selected for the Conrad and Scherer Pathways program, which has been an incredibly unique and enriching experience. My interest in becoming a lawyer has been fueled by my involvement in mock trial and the FLHS Magnet program. However, none of that can compare to having the opportunity to work alongside paralegals and attorneys at a real law firm. Observing skilled attorneys craft compelling arguments, reading about diverse civil cases, and learning various strategic tactics has broadened my understanding of the legal profession. I’ve been deeply inspired by witnessing the dedication and persistence of those at Conrad and Scherer working toward justice, and I’m motivated to follow this path with the same commitment.

Jordyn Minnis

I am Jordyn Minnis, a Fort Lauderdale High School graduate and freshman at the University of Miami. I intend to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Motion Pictures Business, with the long-term goal of becoming an entertainment lawyer. I was fortunate enough to be invited back as a summer intern for my second year at the prestigious law firm that is Conrad & Scherer.

I have been exposed to a variety of different civil cases and have been an active participant during litigation, where pulling and reviewing discovery and drafting court orders barely scratch the surface of the legal assignments I have undertaken during my time here. While working at Conrad & Scherer, I have been able to engage with individuals from very diverse backgrounds, which is something I know I could not have experienced anywhere else. Here, inclusivity and cooperation are paramount and I have learned that a firm, just like any good business, is only as successful as the people who work there.

In my two years with Conrad & Scherer, I have gleaned something from everyone I have come to know. I have refined my legal skills by learning from professionals who are the best at what they do. It’s so eye-opening to look back at where I was a year ago and consider that had I not taken the initiative to join the Pathways program, I would not have grown into the person I am today. This program has given me so many opportunities to understand what it takes to be an accomplished attorney and what it really means to run a firm, where no one’s role can be overlooked as everyone’s jobs are integral to success.

As a first-generation college student, I joined the Pathways program for the chance to broaden my horizons, to understand the law and learn how to make it work in favor of the less fortunate, and as a way to solidify who I one day aspire to be- objectives that I have met and surpassed during my internship. As I head off into college, pursuing a career in law remains a driving factor in the decisions I make, extracurriculars I join, and internships I undertake, but I know, ultimately, that my time at Conrad & Scherer has shaped my life for the better! The summer before official adulthood is one best spent being productive and while I have found the time for paddle boarding, spending time with friends and family before heading off to college down south, and have even been swept up in the pickleball craze that has rocked the nation, the one thing I will always remember is the time I have spent on the outskirts of downtown Fort Lauderdale, in a boutique law firm just off the road, in a place with people who have molded me into the best person I can be, and where I lived an experience I will never forget.

We are thrilled to have Yasmin and Jordyn with us this summer and look forward to seeing the bright futures they will undoubtedly create. Their dedication and achievements are truly inspiring, and they represent the very best of what our Pathways to Careers in Law program aims to accomplish. Welcome to the team, Yasmin and Jordyn!
