Commercial Litigation Attorney Kirk vonHilsheimer Promoted to Partner

Conrad & Scherer is pleased to announce the promotion of Kirk vonHilsheimer to Partner in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office. This promotion reflects Kirk’s long-standing contributions to the firm and his growing role within its complex commercial litigation practice.

Kirk joined Conrad & Scherer in 2016. Since then, he has earned the respect of clients and colleagues through sound judgment, strong work ethic, and a steady approach to litigation. Over time, he has taken on greater responsibility in matters involving significant legal, financial, and reputational risk. As a result, clients regularly rely on him for clear strategy and practical guidance.

Experience in Complex Commercial Litigation

Throughout his career, Kirk has represented clients in complex commercial litigation involving contract disputes, business torts, and construction claims. In addition, he regularly assists property owners and contractors with enforcing mechanic’s liens and resolving construction-related disputes.

Moreover, Kirk handles cases involving fiduciary duties and financial misconduct. He also works to protect public access to government records under Florida’s Sunshine Law (Fla. Stat. § 119). In probate matters, he represents parties in disputes involving claims of undue influence and testamentary capacity. Together, this range of experience allows him to approach litigation strategically while keeping client objectives at the forefront.

Role in Landmark Litigation

Most notably, Kirk served as a member of the trial team in Gopher v. Wells Fargo. In that case, Broward County jurors returned the largest jury verdict in the county’s history, awarding approximately $826 million for Wells Fargo’s mismanagement of a trust established for the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s children. Following the verdict, the court entered an amended judgment exceeding $1.25 billion with prejudgment interest.

As a result, the case stands as a clear example of the firm’s trial-ready approach and its ability to handle matters of exceptional legal and financial significance.

Professional Recognition

Kirk’s work has earned consistent recognition within the legal community. He has been named a Super Lawyers® Rising Star in 2024, 2025, and 2026. In addition, Best Lawyers selected him as one to watch in both Commercial Litigation and Construction Litigation for the same years. Earlier in his career, Fort Lauderdale Illustrated Magazine also recognized him as one of the “FACES of Fort Lauderdale” in High-Stakes Litigation.

Continued Leadership at the Firm

As a Partner, Kirk will continue to play an important role in advancing Conrad & Scherer’s commercial litigation practice. He works closely with partners on case strategy and preparation. At the same time, he remains deeply involved in managing complex disputes across multiple industries.

Ultimately, Kirk’s promotion reflects his experience, professionalism, and leadership within the firm. Conrad & Scherer looks forward to his continued contributions as a Partner.
